This handsome residence in bd Haussmann was built in 1869 by Edouard Andre, an officer in the Imperial Guards . He collected precious works of art and objects and marry a well-known Parisian painter named Nellie Jacquemart. After they got married, the couple sourced for even more fine tapestries, rugs, furniture, manuscripts, paintings and sculpture to fill the lovely house.
Works by Bellini, Carpaccio, Uccelo, Van Dyck, Rembrandt, Tiepolo, Rubens, Watteau, Boucher, Fragonard, and Mantegna are complemented by Houdon busts, Savonnerie carpets, Gobelin tapestries, della Robbia terra cottas, and an awesome collection of antiques. The 18th-century Tiepolo frescoes of spectators on balconies viewing Henri III's 1574 arrival in Venice are outstanding.
Take a break or brunch with a cup of tea in Mme
Jacquemart's high-ceilinged dining room, adorned
with 18th-century tapestries. Salads, tarts, tourtes
(pastries filled with meat or fruit), and Viennese
pastries are served during museum hours.
